WA: Royals end tour with new, warm memories
The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh end their 16-day visit to Australia today, with
the generosity of Australians from Hobart to Perth and the red centre etched in their
minds.
At a state reception in Perth last night, the Queen said her abiding affection and
respect for Australia and Australians has been confirmed and renewed during the tour,
and she and the Duke look forward to returning next year.
The garden party for more than 600 dignatories was held after the Royal couple spent
a day in WA's south-west.
The last events on the Royal itinerary include an inspection of a $17 million state-of-the-art
medical training centre and the construction site of a belltower which will house the
historic St Martin-in-the-Fields bells.
The Queen will then light the flame of remembrance at the State War Memorial in picturesque
Kings Park, overlooking the city, before the Royal couple leave for London later today.
