Vic: Nurses vote to lift work bans
Victorian nurses have voted to lift their work bans and have begun reopening beds across
the state's hospital system.
More than 2,000 members of the Australian Nursing Federation have voted to enter arbitration
with the state government over their claim for a 24 per cent pay rise and improved conditions.
Federation state secretary BELINDA MORIESON says nurses have agreed after much debate
to lift the bans from the first shift tomorrow.
She says the federation will report to the Australian Industrial Relations Commission
tonight and arbitration is due to start as soon as possible.
Ms MORIESON says the advantage of arbitration is that the commission has committed
to hear each point of the federation's 105-point claim and an outcome has been promised
by August 31.
