NSW: Packer's $10 million for hosptial that did kindey op
KERRY PACKER has donated $10 million to the hospital that performed a kidney transplant
from his helicopter pilot.
Sydney's Royal Prince Alfred Hospital will use the money to build a staff training
facility, to be called the Kerry Packer Education Centre.
NICK ROSS, the man who gave his kidney for the life-saving operation, will also be
honoured with the refurbished transplant unit to be named the NICK ROSS Clinic.
Central Sydney Area Health Service chief executive officer Dr DIANA HORVATH says the
hospital often receives bequests, but nothing rivalling Mr PACKER'S donation.
She says publicity surrounding the transplant also means more people now feel more
comfortable giving a kidney to family or friends.
