Keeping crime at the center of the political debate, Gov. Mario Cuomo on Friday ordered the Legislature to meet on Martin Luther King Day to consider gun control legislation and other anti-violence measures.
Cuomo previously had invited lawmakers to hold a session on the King holiday Monday, but Republicans who control the state Senate had refused. The Assembly's Democratic majority had agreed to meet.
