Vic: Teenager charged with 90 counts of car theft

MELBOURNE, Dec 29 AAP - A 16-year-old Melbourne boy has been charged with 90 counts
of car theft and 208 counts of stealing from cars.

A police spokesman said the teenager was seen loitering in the carpark of the Frankston
Centre, in Melbourne's south east, on Wednesday.

He ran off when police arrived, but was arrested a short time later at the nearby Frankston
railway station.

The Seaford teenager was bailed to face Frankston Children's Court on January 25.

A front-page report in the Herald Sun newspaper today said more than 100 cars were
stolen in Melbourne each day.

Citing police figures, the newspaper said the most popular cars for thieves were the
1984-88 XF Falcon, and the 1986-88 VL Commodore.
