Qld: Drivers behaving themselves so far say police

Police say Queensland drivers are being fairly well behaved on the roads because police
are more visible.

Three people have died on Queensland roads so far this Christmas.

More than 7,000 speeding tickets have been issued and more than 600 drivers had been
booked for either drink driving or not wearing a seat belt.

Superintendent GRANT PITMAN from the State Traffic Support Branch says more than 35,000
random breath tests have been performed since police started their Christmas road safety
campaign on Friday.

Superintendent PITMAN says increased government funding for additional police on the
roads has meant more people have been picked up for speeding.

But he says most traffic is fairly orderly around the south-east corner of the state,
and up through the Bruce highway to Cairns.
